Murray wrecks leave 1 dead, several hurt

Staff report

One person died and several people were injured in two wrecks in Murray Thursday afternoon.

One of the wrecks - involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer - resulted in the fatality, according to the Calloway County coroner.

Murray police reported that at 1:50 p.m. the right front of a 2007 Ford F-250 that was headed north on North 4th Street collided with the left front of a 2015 International tractor-tractor that was headed south. Heavy rain was falling at the time of the collision, which occurred between Northwood Drive and U.S. 641.

The tractor-trailer was driven by Kirksey resident George Baird, 61. The pickup was occupied by three Calvert City residents: driver Paul Megson, 67, and passengers Berva Megson, 53, and Donald Rowe, 26. Coroner Ricky Harris said the wreck killed Paul Megson and Berva Megson and Rowe were taken to Nashville, Tenn., by ambulance.

According to Murray police, the preliminary investigation indicated that the Ford was in the southbound lane when the collision happened, and police reconstructionists continue to investigate.

Also on Thursday, a wreck involving three vehicles took place at 12:50 p.m. at North 16th Street and University Drive. According to Murray police, a minivan ran into the rear of a stopped SUV, which hit the rear of a car stopped in front of it.

The car - a 2011 Nissan Altima driven by Cadiz resident April Walker, 22, and occupied by Murray resident Kory Savage, 24 - was stopped southbound in traffic on North 16th. Behind Walker was a stopped vehicle driven by Paducah resident Meagan Musselman, 34. A 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by New Concord resident Heather Neale, 36, struck the Musselman vehicle in the rear, which in turn pushed it into the rear of the Walker vehicle.
