Road work by mall begins Monday

Staff report

As part of the Olivet Church Road widening, Paducah Water will close a section of Ring Road around Kentucky Oaks Mall between Sears and Old Navy starting Monday.

Closing this section to through traffic will allow Paducah Water to install 10- and 12-inch water mains within a steel encasement, relocate the water mains, and excavate and restore the roadway. Weather permitting, the work will take two to three weeks.

The Olivet Church project is a joint effort of the city, county and state that will widen Olivet Church to three lanes between Hinkleville Road and James-Sanders Boulevard and construct a new five-lane connector road from Olivet Church Road to the intersection of U.S. 60 and New Holt Road.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has allocated $2 million for right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation, including the work to be done by Paducah Water.

Roadway construction is expected to begin this fall. However, work will halt around the mall area from Nov. 1 through Jan. 15 to accommodate holiday traffic.
