A $1.1 million contract has been awarded and work will soon begin for TeleTech's new location in downtown Paducah.
Paducah Economic Development President/CEO Chad Chancellor said a contract was awarded Friday to renovate the former Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce Building at Fourth Street and Kentucky Avenue. The building will be home to a call center for TeleTech Holdings, Inc., a consulting, technology and customer management company based in Colorado.
A contract was awarded by PED to BH Green & Son of Paducah for $1,150,000. Chancellor said the renovation will include opening up the building into an open space and running wiring and cables to create between 100-150 work stations for the call center.
The Paducah Chamber, PED and EntrePaducah moved in 2013 from the former chamber building to the former Paducah Freight House at 330 S. Third Street, which was renovated before the move. Leaders cited high utility costs at the former chamber building as one reason for the move. The chamber building was owned by the city until PED purchased it for $1 in 2013.
Chancellor said TeleTech would like to be moved in by the end of October.
The building is expected to house about 150 employees, and TeleTech said in July it hopes to establish about 550 jobs in Paducah and McCracken County.
TeleTech began operations at its new Paducah Commerce Park call center location in July, where company officials have said they hope to employ about 400 people. Chancellor said he expects the Commerce Park location to be fully operational within the next few weeks.
