Purple Toad wins big at international competition

Purple Toad Winery in Paducah won the "2014 Fruit Wine of the Year" award for Lauren's Blackberry at the 23rd annual Indy International Wine Competition on July 30 and Aug. 1, making it the first Kentucky winery to win a "Best of" category since 2006.

The Indy Wine Competition is one of the largest competitions in the U.S. with nearly 3,000 entries from 15 countries and 40 U.S. states in the 2014 competition.

Along with the "2014 Fruit Wine of the Year" award, Purple Toad Winery won three Best of Class awards for Lauren's Blackberry, Black & Bruised and Black Peach; double gold medals for Lauren's Blackberry and Black Peach; gold medals for Black & Bruised, Paducah Peach, Sangria and Steven's Strawberry; silver medals for Paducah Harbor, Killer B's, Black Shadow, PeachBerry, 2013 Merlot and Gluhwein; and a bronze medal for Paducah Blue.Purple Toad Winery is located at 4275 Old U.S. Highway 45 S. in Paducah.
