'Walkable City' author to address chamber breakfast

Nationally recognized author Jeff Speck will be the featured speaker at the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce's August Power in Partnership monthly breakfast Aug. 7.

Speck is the author of "Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time," and co-author of "Suburban Nation." He has dedicated his career to determining what makes cities thrive, believing walkability is a key factor. His background is in city planning and urban design.

Speck will be in Paducah for a few days to review the city's downtown area and offer input on future improvements. He currently leads the Washington, D.C.-based design practice Speck & Associates, focusing on downtown master plans, waterfront visions, urban and suburban infill plans, transit-oriented designs, street plans and walkability studies.

The breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Julian Carroll Convention Center.  Strawberry Hills Pharmacy is the event's sponsor. Cost is $15.
