Bridge repair nears completion

ELLEN O'NAN | The Sun

Mike Freeman (right) and Donnie Doyle, of Judy C. Harp Construction, get into position to repair a beam on the Brookport bridge Monday afternoon. The crew is repairing a beam on the third span out from the Illinois side of the river, as well as a beam on the second span from the Kentucky side. The work at each location is expected to take two or three days. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers hope to have the bridge ready to reopen to traffic in time for the morning commute on Monday. They still seek information about damage to a beam that likely occurred around April 30. Engineers believe the damage was caused by a red truck, possibly hauling an oversize load, traveling from Kentucky into Illinois. Anyone who has information about the damage can contact the agency.
