Gourd Festival seeks sponsors

Staff report

The Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild, Mayfield Tourism and the city of Mayfield are gearing up for the month-long All About Gourds exhibition and the one-day Gourd Patch Arts Festival.

All About Gourds is a national competition with work produced by creative artists who explore the functional and artistic possibilities of the humble gourd. A highlight of the exhibit, the annual Gourd Patch Arts Festival, takes place on the third Saturday of September, and will feature vendors, activities, live music and the Gourd-Mobile Derby, pine car derby-style races where the cars are made of gourds.  Contributions are used for prize money and awards, printing, postage, derby workshops, and other festival costs.

The Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild is asking local businesses and individuals to serve as sponsors. Sponsors will be listed in all publicity such as visitors programs, the art guild newsletter and its website. Anyone wanting to be a sponsor or volunteer can contact the Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild at 270-247-6971.

All About Gourds runs Sept. 9 through Oct. 11, and the Gourd Patch Arts Festival is Saturday, Sept. 20.
