Allen West to speak at school

BY GENEVIEVE POSTLETHWAIT gpostlethwait@paducahsun.com

The McCracken County Republican Party will host an evening with "Guardian of the Republic" author Allen West from 8 to 10 p.m. Aug. 1 in the McCracken County High School C Plant Performing Arts Center.

West's appearance will be the day before political issues move to the Fancy Farm Picnic.

West will speak on his vision for the country, including the restoration of conservative values, veterans issues, and the importance of education and hard work, pulling from his experience as a decorated military veteran, teacher and congressman. West, a Fox News contributor and retired Army lieutenant colonel, served from 2011 to 2013 as a congressman from Florida.

Cheryl Grana, McCracken County Republican Executive Committee event vice chairwoman, said she hopes West's message will appeal to people of all ages and political persuasions.

"You still find people who are very apathetic about politics in general, and we need all citizens to be more informed and more aware and to care more about their country and political process," Grana said. "Everybody is welcome to this event: conservatives, Democrats and Republicans alike."

Main floor auditorium seats are $40, balcony seats are $30, and balcony seats are available to students for $20.

More information and tickets are available at http://allenwestevent.eventbrite.com or by calling 270-534-8344. Proceeds will be used to help elect Republicans from McCracken County running for local and state offices.
