Motorcycle hit-and-run hospitalizes two

Staff report 

McCracken sheriff's deputies were looking Friday for a Ledbetter man believed to have left the scene of a two-motorcycle wreck late Thursday.

The wreck happened at 11:55 p.m. on Clark's River Road in front of the Five Star Food Mart. According to a sheriff's news release, Will Gainey, 51, of Ledbetter, was traveling east on a black and silver 1999 Honda Shadow motorcycle and collided with another motorcyclist who was trying to turn into a liquor store parking lot. A passenger on the second cycle, 28-year-old Crystal Cowen of Grand Rivers, was thrown off and received severe injuries. The operator of the unidentified motorcycle left Cowen and fled.

Gainey and Cowen were taken by Mercy Regional Ambulance to Baptist Health, where Cowen was later airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

The driver of the second motorcycle was identified in the sheriff's report as Kevin Bowers, 37, of Ledbetter.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bowers is urged to contact the McCracken County Sheriff's Department at 270-444-4719.
