Barbecue on the River Run registration open

Staff report

The 20th annual United Way 5K Run and Fitness Walk kicks off this year at 9 a.m. Sept. 27 during Paducah's Barbecue on the River charity event.

The race course for the 5K run begins in downtown Paducah at the Paducah Bank main branch, 555 Jefferson St.

Promoting health, fitness and fun, the race is open to all: serious runners, corporate teams, running clubs, entire families, and community groups. The race also includes a 1-mile Youth Run for children ages 12 and under.

More than 500 runners and walkers from all across the U.S. participate. The race utilizes a chip timing system to produce accurate results.

Advance registration is open until noon Sept. 25. The entry fee for the 5K run is $25, and the fee for the 1-mile Youth Run is $10. Pre-packet pickup will be available to runners who registered in advance from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at Paducah Power, 1500 Broadway. Runners also can pick up their packets at the race site the morning of the run.

Registration also is available the morning of the race. 5K run registration will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and the youth run registration will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Shirts for the events will be ordered only for the first 400 registrants, including those who advance register.

For more information or to register in advance for the run, visit www.unitedwaypaducah.org.
