HENDERSON - After a human leg was found along the Ohio River bank near Henderson's river port Friday, responders searched for a body with no success.
Don Farris, Henderson County chief deputy coroner, said the coroner's office sent the leg - two lower leg bones and a shoe - to a medical examiner in Madisonville. He said the office hopes to have DNA samples ready within a few days, and the samples will then be put into a computer system in search of a match.
Farris said it's very likely a match will be found. "We've got some people who are missing here in the tri-state area ... we're very confident that eventually we'll get a match."
The Henderson County Rescue Squad and the Henderson Dive Team searched the area near where the bones were found, and Perry Township in Indiana sent a rescue boat with sonar equipment for the search. Ohio Valley Search and Rescue also searched the riverbank.
