Dino exhibit opens this weekend

Discover the Dinosaurs, an exhibit featuring more than 40 moving and replica museum-quality dinosaurs, is returning to Paducah this weekend.

The exhibit will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Paducah Convention Center at 414 Park St.

Discover the Dinosaurs is for the entire family, especially children, to explore the mystery of prehistoric life in an environment of learning, discovery and fun.

This is a walk-through, indoor exhibit. Visitors can go at their own pace as there are no set performance times.

This is the second year the dinosaur exhibit has come to Paducah, said Rachel Jones of the Carson Center. The Carson Center currently manages the Paducah Convention Center for the city.

Some of the dinosaurs in the exhibit come to life with sound and movement.

"They move and growl, tell about where they're from, what they ate and other general facts," Jones said.

No matter what your age, this is a fun experience not found in museums.

Along with the animatronic dinosaurs, static dinosaurs replicas are also featured throughout the exhibit.

The "static" dinosaur replicas are of museum quality, and anatomically proportioned to reflect paleontologists' documented findings. Children will have the opportunity to touch these dinosaurs. This is encouraged and a cornerstone of the Discover the Dinosaurs experience.

Beyond the exhibit, additional activities include a dino dig, dino theater, coloring and a scavenger hunt. Activities such as inflatables (socks required), mini golf and dinosaurs rides can be purchased at an additional cost.

Admission is $18 for adults (13 years and older); $16 for children (2 to 12 years) or seniors (65 plus); and children under 1 get in free.

The cost for a child's Exhibit Plus ticket is $22, which allows for unlimited dinosaurs rides, mini golf and inflatables. Individual ride tickets may be purchased for $5-$6.
