BY KATIE PAXTON kpaxton@paducahsun.com

The 53rd annual McCracken County Fair is hosting several events this weekend before it kicks off officially on Monday.

A 5K walk/run at Carson Park begins today's events at 8 a.m. with registration from 7-7:30 a.m. There will also be a 1K walk/run for children. The entry fee is $25 for adults and $10 for children.

At 9 a.m., there will be the Myotonic Goat Show with cash prizes for winners.

Later in the day at 6:30 p.m. is the Miss Teen McCracken County beauty pageant at the Robert Cherry Civic Center, followed by the Miss McCracken County beauty pageant at 7 p.m. Admission is $2. Miss Teen McCracken County and Miss McCracken County will receive cash awards and the opportunity to compete in the Miss Kentucky Teen and Miss Kentucky pageants.

Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of South Paducah, this weekend's events, in addition to those during the official week, will benefit area youth programs such as the Paducah Cooperative Ministry, McCracken County Public Library, Kentucky Sheriff Boys/Girls Clubs, Paducah City and McCracken County Head Start and other charities.

Details of the official week of the McCracken County Fair will be featured in Sunday's Paducah Sun.
