BENTON - Former Marshall County football coach Ron Barnard waived his case to the grand jury Wednesday in Marshall District Court.
Barnard appeared with attorney Craig Newbern before Marshall District Judge Jack Telle and advised the court that he did not wish to have a preliminary hearing to determine if there is probable cause to send the case to the grand jury.
Telle said that the grand jury is not expected to meet again until July 24 and set Barnard's case for review at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 4.
Barnard is charged with two counts of using a minor to distribute obscene material, one count of promoting a minor under 16 to engage in a sexual performance, and one count of unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities.
These charges were filed after the Marshall County Sheriff's Office obtained sexually explicit messages, photos and recordings allegedly involving Barnard and a 15-year-old girl from Marshall County High School.
According to the sheriff's office, detectives are still processing evidence against Barnard and seized computers are in the process of being examined.
