Paducah Summer Games start Friday

Staff report

The Paducah Summer Games, sponsored by Paducah Parks Services, will be Friday and Saturday.

The games will kick off with a 5K walk/run on the Greenway Trail at 6:30 p.m. Friday. On-site registration begins at 5 p.m. at Shelter 19.

The walk/run will take participants along the Greenway Trail to Stuart Nelson Park and back.

The annual Cross River Swim will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Paducah riverfront, at the foot of Broadway.

Swimmers are asked to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for instructions.

They will start on the Illinois side of the Ohio River and try to swim to the foot of Broadway. If they have not competed in the Cross River Swim before, participants must provide documentation from a pool manager that they can swim 500 meters.

All swimmers must have a manned boat to accompany them if they need to be picked up.

Disc golf will be held at Stuart Nelson Park on Saturday. Round 1 will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start, and Round 2 will follow the start of Round 1.

On-site registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the shelter near the tee to hole 1. They will compete in one of two divisions for prizes.

Each event has a $10 registration fee and all participants must be at least 12.

Pre-registration is encouraged for all events.

The first 100 registered will receive a Paducah Summer Games T-shirt. Call the Parks office at 270-444-8508 to pre-register.
