The Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring several leadership events this weekend in Paducah.
The Murray State Paducah campus is hosting the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Girls state conference today for students and parents. Featured keynote speaker Joanne Manaster of the University of Illinois will speak at 9:15 a.m., followed by local science and education panels for parents and tours of the WKCTC Allied Health Building for students.
The conference is meant to encourage young girls and women to pursue an education in science. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The conference adjourns at 3:45 p.m.
On Saturday, Leadership Paducah Class 27 invites the public to a day of events titled Stepping Out for Child Watch, benefiting the Child Watch organization.
The morning event will take place at Barkley Regional Airport with a 5K on the runway. Registration begins at 7 a.m. followed by the run at 8 a.m. A children's one-mile fun run will start at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $30 in advance and $35 on the day of the race. The children's run fee is $15. Tickets for the evening event, Murr Vegas All Stars, will also be sold at the race.
The Murr Vegas All Stars event will take place at the Julian Carroll Convention Center from 7-11 p.m. The event features dancing with a live band, silent and live auctions, and food and drinks. Tickets are $50.
The class raised $31,000 last year for the Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club and hopes to raise more this year to help prevent child abuse with Child Watch.
