This year's Purchase District Fair in Mayfield will be June 17-21.
The fair was canceled last year when the carnival failed to show up.
This year, the carnival will be provided by Drew Expositions, one of the top three carnivals in the nation, according to Mayor Teresa Cantrell.
"Our bad luck carnival last year proved to be in our favor in getting the attention of a carnival of the quality and size of Drew Expos," said Cantrell, president of the Purchase District Fair Board.
The Drew family has made several trips to Mayfield to meet with the board and organizers to help develop the fair week, packed with activities for all ages.
There will be special pricing Tuesday through Thursday, with armbands that can be purchased for $15 that allow buyers to ride from 5 p.m. to closing each night.
Friday's ride tickets will be the regular price of $1.25, and Saturday will feature free rides from 4 to 5 p.m., with regular ticket pricing.
Two other features of the fair will be laser tag at an additional cost and a petting zoo featuring more than 50 animals. The zoo is included in the gate price of $3 per person. The admission price for students and senior citizens, 65 and over, is $2.
Prior to the start of the fair, the annual Graves County Riding Club's Horse Show will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the small riding ring at the fairgrounds. At 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mayfield High School Commons, the Jackson Purchase District Fair Pageant will crown royalty to serve during the fair's variety of events and then go on to compete on the state level.
Every evening, special events are featured in the grandstand. Admission for all special events will be $3 for adults and $2 for students and seniors.
Monday evening will feature harness racing, beginning at 5 p.m. on the big track at the fairgrounds.
The Coca-Cola Talent Contest will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17.
The Antique Tractor Pull will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 18.
The WKCRA 2014 Motorcycle/ATV races will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19.
Activities continue with mud racing at 7 p.m. on June 20 and the Power Wheels Derby and Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. on June 21. Admission for the Demolition Derby is $5 per person.
