Lourdes center seeking chronic wound awareness

Staff report

Lourdes Wound Care Center and Hyperbaric Medicine is participating in the first Healogics National Wound Care Awareness Week, which runs through Friday.

The Healogics network, of which Lourdes Wound Care is a member, is the nation's largest provider of advanced wound care.

Chronic wounds affect millions of people in the U.S.

Incidence of chronic wounds is rising, fueled by an aging population and increasing disease rates and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the effects of radiation therapy. Untreated, chronic wounds can lead to diminished quality of life and possible amputation of limbs.

"There are many patients living with non-healing wounds who are unaware of treatments available in their local communities," said D. Scott Covington, chief medical director for Healogics Inc. "We make advanced wound care available to all patients who would benefit from it, but we also educate the communities we serve about chronic wounds and treatment options for patients who suffer with them."

People with wounds that have not improved with traditional methods of treatment in four weeks may benefit from other case. To schedule an appointment with Lourdes Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, call 270-441-4462 or visit elourdes.com.
