McCracken sheriff's office warns of phone scam

Staff report

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of a phone scam after receiving multiple calls Sunday morning, according to a news release.

Police said each victim reported an unknown man calling and identifying himself as a member of the McCracken County Sheriff's Office. The caller then told individuals that there is a warrant out for their arrest for missing jury duty. He said he would take care of the warrant if the resident sent money.

Every call originated from the same phone number, 270-206-0146. The number has a recording that refers to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office. The phone number and person are not affiliated with the sheriff's department. The office would not ask for money in reference to an existing warrant.

Officers advise people to not give out personal information over the phone or send money. Anyone who has received a similar call or sent money should contact the sheriff's department immediately at 270-444-4719.
