Challenger Center offers summer classes

The Challenger Learning Center will offer a variety of educational summer camps for children from incoming kindergartens to eighth graders.

Astrotot Camp for kindergarten to first-grade students includes Rockin' Rockets on June 6, Mighty Magnets on June 17 and Cosmic Constellations on June 27. The camps will be offered in two-hour sessions for a cost of $15 per session.

Space Discovery I is for second- to third-grade students and Space Discovery II is for third- to fourth-grade students. The one-day camps from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. include hands-on space and science activities. The dates for Space Discovery I are June 9, June 18, June 23 and July 10. The dates for Space Discovery II are June 10, June 19 and July 11. The cost of each camp is $30 or $35, with lunch.

CSI (Challenger Special Investigator) camp will allow students to use their powers of observation and conduct scientific tests to help solve the mystery of the missing Mars rocks. CSI camp is for fifth- to eighth-grade students. The two-day camp will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 10-11. The cost is $90 or $100 with lunch.

Students will explore outer space themes in different color medias with Designs in Space. The one-day camp is for third- to fifth-grade students and will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 13. The cost is $40 or $45 with lunch.

Expedition: Moon will include flying a mission in the hands-on simulator. The one-day camp is for fourth- to seventh-grade students and will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 16 or July 25. The cost is $40 or $45 with lunch.

Mission to Mars Camp includes a mission in the hands-on simulator. The camp is for fourth- through seventh-grade students. The three-day camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 24-26 or July 16-18. The cost is $130 or $145 with lunch.

Rocket Camp will be offered for fifth- to eighth-grade students. Participants will build and launch several different types of rockets including eggstronaut rockets and model rockets. The three-day camp will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 18-20.  The cost is $130 or $145 with lunch.

Participants in the Underwater Astronaut Camp will receive basic Scuba instruction and then undergo an underwater astronaut-training program. The three-day camp will be offered for 11- to 14-year olds. Scuba gear will be provided but participants must be able to swim and medically fit to dive. The three-day camp will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 7-9. The cost is $170 or $185 with lunch.
