Key leads to robbery suspects

Staff report

Edward Watson, 33, and Tevin Taylor, 22, both of Mayfield, were charged Thursday after they allegedly robbed and beat a man in his car.

According to Deputy Richard Edwards of the Graves County Sheriff's Department, a Mayfield man stopped to give two men a ride at Sixth and College streets around 8 p.m. Thursday. The victim, who was not identified, reported that Taylor entered the rear passenger side of the vehicle and put him in a chokehold, pinning him to his seat. Watson then entered the vehicle from the front passenger side and struck the victim in the face with a plastic ashtray.

The two men took $20 from the victim and threatened to kill him.

According to the sheriff's report, the men fled to a room in the Budget Inn, where they told a witness they were going to kill the man. During the robbery, however, one assailant dropped a room key inside the vehicle.

Following a tip, Edwards located and with the help of Mayfield police arrested Watson and Taylor at 111 Sunset Drive in Mayfield.

Watson was charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and failure to notify an address change to the Department of Transportation. Taylor was charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree terroristic threatening.

Both were jailed.
