Trustees recognize Winters

Mid-Continent University recognized Ken Winters with the title of president emeritus for accomplishments during his tenure as acting president.

The Board of Trustees approved the honorary title at the recommendation of current acting president Tom Walden during a meeting Tuesday night. Winters took the position after former president Robert Imhoff stepped aside in late February. He was later terminated for cause by the board.

"If it wasn't for Ken Winters, we would not have finished the semester and made it to graduation," he said. "He brought skills, abilities and contacts to the table that no one else could have. He was dedicated 100 percent to the students and to making sure they finished classes."

Winters helped raise thousands of dollars from churches, individuals and other sources to help pay for graduation and other expenses. He also volunteered his time and worked for two months without compensation, according to Walden.
