Saturday morning's cool temperatures and warm sun gave runners of the city's Iron Mom half-marathon good conditions for success.
A total of 960 runners crowded into Paducah's riverfront for the fourth-annual Lourdes Paducah Iron Mom Half Marathon. Registration was up this year from an estimated 900 in 2013, and runners from 14 states participated.
Rehab Associates, City of Paducah Human Resources Director Cindy Medford, Lourdes Hospital and Family Service Society organize the annual 13.1-mile run for individuals and for two-and-four-person relay teams.
Terry Okerson of Paducah was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 1 hour, 26 minutes and 36 seconds. For the women, Melissa Rogers of Paducah won with a time of 1:34:37.
Proceeds from the race go to the Family Service Society, Inc. Iron Mom raised $20,000 for the organization in 2011; $25,000 in 2012; and $30,000 in 2013.
This year's total will be tallied in a few days.
