Burglary, chase lead to arrests of two men

Staff report

Two McCracken County men were arrested early Thursday morning on charges of first-degree burglary, resisting arrest, and fleeing or evading police.

Police were called just before midnight Wednesday by a resident of the Ritz Apartments in the 2200 block of Broadway, who said he had seen a man kick in the door of a neighboring apartment. As officers arrived, the resident told a dispatcher that two men were heading to the lobby in the elevator. As officers waited in the lobby, Officer Chris Fearon saw a man running north across Jefferson Street.

Officers found Codey Ballard, 25, of McKendree Church Road hiding on a back porch in the 2200 block of Jefferson Street. Ballard attempted to run, but he was subdued with the use of a Taser. He continued to scuffle with officers, and finally was handcuffed.

Officer Steve Thompson saw another man running down an alley between Jefferson and Monroe streets. Thompson caught him in a front yard in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street. The suspect, Robert Scott, 20, of Harrison Street, continued to resist, but was handcuffed.

Officers searching the area found the following items taken from the apartment: a television,;a PlayStation 3, eight wristwatches, two camcorders and a laptop computer.

Additionally, Officer Lofton Rowley found a handgun near where Ballard had been hiding at the home.

Ballard and Scott were jailed.
