Man accused of burglaries, thefts

Staff report

A Barlow man faces multiple charges in connection with several burglaries in Ballard and McCracken counties, the McCracken County Sheriff's Department announced Thursday.

Michael Mitchell, 34, faces six counts of first-degree burglary, three counts of second-degree burglary, four counts of theft by unlawful taking over $500 and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief in connection with the daytime residential break-ins.

The McCracken sheriff's department investigated break-ins over several weeks, the most recent being Tuesday at 8155 New Liberty Church Road.

A neighbor reported having spotted a blue, older model Chevy Camaro in the area at the time of the break-in. Ballard County Sheriff's Deputy Trent Grief located a vehicle matching that description Wednesday at Mitchell's apartment and contacted McCracken detectives.

Police searched Mitchell's apartment and vehicle. He was also taken to the sheriff's department and interviewed.

Detectives worked into the early morning Thursday, recovering guns, televisions and other items believed taken in both counties, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department. Mitchell was jailed in Paducah.
