Man faces DUI charge after head-on collision

Staff report

A Tennessee man faces several charges after allegedly driving drunk at the time of a two-vehicle crash.

Police said George M. Ryan, 64, of New Johnsonville, was intoxicated when he drove his 2006 Chevrolet Equinox westbound in the eastbound lane of the U.S. 60/Tennessee River Bridge. His vehicle collided head on with a 2004 Ford driven by Jackie Duncan, 28, of Ledbetter, Deputy Tim McLaughlin of the McCracken County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

Duncan and a passenger in Ryan's vehicle, Kyla Parks, 56, also of New Johnsonville, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Duncan was taken to Lourdes hospital by private vehicle. Mercy Regional EMS took Parks to Baptist Health Paducah, McLaughlin said.

After receiving treatment at Baptist Health Paducah and being medically cleared, Ryan was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail. He is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first offense; second-degree assault; first-degree wanton endangerment; first-degree criminal mischief and failure to maintain insurance, McLaughlin said.
