Prescription fraud charge lands woman in jail

Staff report

A Paducah woman was arrested and charged with obtaining a prescription painkiller by fraud.

Paducah Detective John Tolliver said he received information that Tabitha Baird, 52, of Palmer Street, allegedly was obtaining hydrocodone improperly. His investigations showed that Baird had received prescriptions for the drug from two Paducah physicians.

Tolliver interviewed the physicians, who said they were unaware that Baird was seeing another physician. Tolliver presented his investigation to a grand jury, which returned an indictment charging Baird with five counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

She was arrested Wednesday and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
