Benjamin Cooper, American culture studies lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis, will visit West Kentucky Community & Technical College to discuss the World War II prison camp of Manzanar on Monday. He will present "Manzanar Memory" at 11 a.m. in the Matheson Library. The one-hour presentation is free and open to the public, according to a school news release.
The discussion will center on the problems raised in the representation and remembrance of wartime captivity looking at the Manzanar War Relocation Center in California during World War II. The presentation will include archival testimony, imagery from American photographer Ansel Adams and American documentary photojournalist Dorothea Lange, and his personal images and reflections.
Cooper earned a doctoral degree from Washington University and has been published in Arizona Quarterly and in an upcoming collection from Rutgers University Press.
