Fisk Jubilee Singers to perform at WKCTC

Staff report

The Fisk Jubilee Singers will perform Feb. 22 at West Kentucky Community & Technical College. The 7:30 p.m. program will be in the Clemens Fine Arts Center.

The Fisk Jubilee Singers are an American a cappella ensemble, consisting of vocal artists and students from Fisk University in Nashville.  The group performs African-American spirituals, originally sung by slaves prior to the Civil War.

The group was selected as the recipient of the 2008 National Medal of Art. The ensemble has also earned a Dove Award, a Heritage Award, a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and a Grammy nomination.

Prior to the performance a southern meal, prepared by the WKCTC Culinary Arts Department, will be served in the WKCTC Bistro at 5:30 p.m. The menu includes fried shrimp over creamed corn with chile sauce and remoulade, grilled romaine with Cajun ranch dressing, New Orleans chicken with andouille cream sauce, and bread pudding with caramel bourbon sauce.

For reservations and information, visit artsinfocus.org or call the Clemens Box Office at 270-534-3212.  Show tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students and children. Dinner tickets are $30 a person.
