Two-vehicle wreck on I-24 injures child

Staff report

A wreck on I-24 Sunday afternoon sent a 5-year-old to the hospital.

Penny Free, 63, of Paducah was traveling east on I-24 around 3:30 with her granddaughter, Brandy Free. Due to inclement weather, Free lost control of her car, a 1995 Buick Roadmaster, causing her to spin and strike a semi truck traveling behind her, deputy Lindsey Miller of the McCracken County Sheriff's department said in a news release.

Clyde Tatum, 54, of Detroit was driving the semi. Both vehicles ended up in the median of the interstate, and one lane of traffic was closed for about 45 minutes while the semi was pulled from the median, Miller said.

Brandy Free was taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries. Mercy Regional EMS and the Reidland Fire Department assisted.
