McCracken resident faces forgery charges

Staff report

A McCracken County resident faces forgery charges following a December theft, according to the sheriff's department.

Police said the investigation into a checkbook stolen from Elsie Cathey, 86, of Lone Oak began Saturday.  Officers said the checks were taken last December and 16 checks, 11 locally and 5 in Indiana, had been forged, for a total of about $1,500 from the victim's bank account.

Rebecca Cox, 20, of Lone Oak was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Jail for the Kentucky forgery charges. She faces 11 counts of second-degree forgery. The investigation regarding the five checks forged in Indiana is ongoing, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.
