Crash injures Marshall football coach

Staff report

Marshall County High School football coach Ron Barnard was injured in a single-vehicle crash shortly after 2 p.m. Friday.

Barnard was driving westbound on U.S. 68 near the school when his car left the road and struck a tree.

Marshall County EMS took Barnard to Marshall County Hospital. Barnard was then flown by helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Marshall County Deputy Sheriff Cory Curtner is investigating the wreck, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.

"This happens to be someone who is well known in the community, because he's a football coach at the high school," Sheriff Kevin Byars said. "We're working this accident just like we would anyone else. Like with all accidents we do wish the person that is injured and the family is as well as possible, that there is a good result from this and that he recovers from his injury."

Barnard has been the head football coach at Marshall County since 2010.

"We received a call from the local authorities that coach Barnard was in an accident," School Superintendent Trent Lovett said. "We just know that he was in an accident, but we don't know the extent of any injuries."

Deaconess Hospital declined to release his condition.
