Judge appointed for Newberry, Harnice trial

Staff report

Dennis Foust, circuit judge of Marshall and Calloway counties, has been appointed to preside over court proceedings involving McCracken County Judge-Executive Van Newberry and Deputy Judge-Executive Doug Harnice.

Harnice and Newberry are charged with tampering with public records, a felony. The two were indicted Jan. 10 and pleaded not guilty at an arraignment last week. The charges are related to changes to the county zoning maps made in 2007 and 2008, which allegedly did not go through the proper channels for approval.

Although Foust was appointed Tuesday, there was no date set for Newberry and Harnice's next appearance in court.
