A Hopkinsville man faces charges in connection with a police investigation into a forged check passed against an account belonging to the Graves County Board of Education.
State police began an investigation on Jan. 2, when the board's finance officer discovered a forged check written to Timothy Wharton, 38, in the monthly bank statement, reported Trooper Jay Thomas in a news release. The check was written in the amount of $1,868.98 and was cashed on Dec. 24.
An arrest warrant was obtained on Jan. 11, and the Henderson County Sheriff's Office arrested Wharton and jailed him in the county detention center.
He faces charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument and theft by deception over $500. Additional charges are pending as the investigation is ongoing by state police.
