McCracken County detectives spent a cold, windy day Saturday processing the scene of a house fire that killed a Reidland woman Friday.
McCracken County deputies found the body of Julie Griffith, 55, in the rubble of a home on Tudor Boulevard that had been damaged by an early-morning blaze, Sheriff Jon Hayden said. The results of a preliminary autopsy showed reason to suspect foul play, Hayden said. He declined to release more information on the cause of death, citing that it would interfere with his investigation's integrity.
Griffith was in the home overnight Thursday, Hayden said. Just before 2 a.m., a passerby called to report flames at the home. After the blaze had calmed, investigators found Griffith's body. Her two dogs were also reportedly in the home. The remains of one of the dogs has been found, and authorities are still searching for the other.
Detectives spent the day on scene in Reidland, where they used a backhoe to shovel debris into two large tents set up in the home's driveway.
Anyone with information on the death of Griffith, or anyone with surveillance footage of Tudor Boulevard, is asked to call the department at 270-444-4719.
