Woman dies in Trigg fire

Staff report

A house fire in Trigg County killed a Cadiz woman Friday morning.

Kentucky State Police said Dorothy C. Mitchell, 75, was killed when a fire ripped through her home on Rocky Ridge Road. The police received a call from a neighbor who noticed the fire just before 2 a.m.

When firefighters from the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department arrived, they learned someone might be inside the home. They called the state fire marshal's office and the state police. After the fire was extinguished, they found Mitchell's body inside.

An autopsy showed she died of smoke inhalation.

State police and the fire marshal have not concluded the investigation, Trooper Jay Thomas said, but no foul play is suspected.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
