School brushes up on poetry

ALLIE DOUGLASS | The Sun

Kathi Ellis of Louisville briefs students Friday at McCracken County High School on poetry and recitation as part of the Poetry Out Loud grant the school recently won. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition in which a student from McCracken system will have a chance of competing if he or she wins state competition in Frankfort in the coming weeks. Ellis instructed 23 classes throughout the week at McCracken County High after the Kentucky Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts helped to fund her visit to help prepare the students for the recitation competition. Students will be judged on elements such as memorization of the selected poem and pronunciation.
