Sometimes we in the communications business don't do the best job of communicating, internally or with our public. So we think some explanation is due our readers concerning changes to The Paducah Sun's comics lineup in 2014.
Our plan was to begin the new year with an expanded lineup of comics, going from 11 to 14 features on our daily comics page and from 20 to 23 features in the Sunday comics section.
Due to some miscommunication, readers for the first few days of 2014 received a package of nine comics on the daily comics page that was actually intended for several of the smaller-market papers operated by Paxton Media Group. That was corrected this week.
The expanded lineup has also forced us to relocate the "Annie's Mailbox" and Sudoku features. Readers will now find the daily Sudoku puzzle in the Classifieds section. "Annie's Mailbox" will be in the paper daily as well, but may move around from day to day because of space limitations.
The new lineup is the result of a lot of study and reflects a goal of keeping the most widely read comics from our previous lineup while adding a few others, new and old, that have the broadest national followings. Having made changes to comics before, we recognize that some people will be disappointed that one or two of the old features will no longer appear. But we believe the new lineup provides a mix of offerings that will have the broadest appeal among our diverse population of readers.
As always, we are grateful for our readers' loyalty and interest and we apologize for creating some confusion when we first implemented the new packages.
