City won't punish firefighter for scuffle

A Paducah firefighter who was involved in a New Year's Day altercation will not be disciplined, the city announced Wednesday afternoon.

Police reports show Fire Capt. Brian Waid was confronted by Eddie Ladd in the parking lot of Station Four on Jackson Street. Waid was hit in the face and defended himself while he was on duty, the city said.

Ladd showed the city video obtained by a private investigator that showed what he said were allegations of misconduct - mainly Waid receiving a visitor while on duty and using a department vehicle to travel inappropriately - which the city said were determined to be unfounded.

Policies for 24-hour shift employees such as Waid and his fellow firefighters allow for visitors during their shift, the city said.
