Friend finds man frozen to death

Staff report

A man discovered dead on his front porch on Husband Road died of hypothermia, the McCracken County coroner said.

Deputies were called to 1018 Husband Road about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after a family friend found Owen D. Tucker, 85, dead on his front porch. Sheriff Jon Hayden said an investigation concluded Wednesday when the coroner's office said preliminary autopsy results showed he had died due to extreme exposure to the cold.

Hayden said investigators believe that Owen went outside the night before, when the wind chill dipped to minus-20 degrees, and accidentally locked himself out of the house. Authorities believe he died around 11 p.m.
