CTA reopens O'Hare station after derailment

Associated Press

CHICAGO - The Chicago Transit Authority station at O'Hare International Airport is reopen, nearly a week after the derailment of a Blue Line train.

CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase says the station reopened mid-afternoon Sunday.

Crews worked around the clock to restore service to the stop after an eight-car train derailed last Monday. The train jumped onto the platform and barreled up an escalator after the train's operator admitted she fell asleep.

Union officials say the operator worked for more than 69 hours in the week before the crash, but the transit agency says she worked 55 hours.

More than 30 people were injured.

Workers removed the train Thursday and have been repairing tracks, platforms and staircases as buses took passengers to the airport from a different stop.

A federal investigation is continuing regarding the incident.
