Water service being restored in Owen County

OWENTON - Officials say water service is being restored for some of the 2,000 Owen County residents who have been without it for several days.

Kentucky American Water spokeswoman Susan Lancho said Saturday that many customers in the southern and eastern parts of Owen County have begun to see restoration of water service after a new plant began operating.

Later Saturday, the company said northern parts of the county should begin to see service restored through the evening, with other areas reaching normal water pressures Sunday.

County officials declared a state of emergency after a water main break occurred Monday evening in frigid temperatures.

Government offices and schools in Owen County were closed due to the problem. Residents are being advised to boil water before it is consumed.
