These days, junior golf has nearly as much to offer as the professional tours. Players can choose between national, regional and state tours, or just hang out in the summer and play at local clubs. Many area courses will offer their own junior events, but regional and national associations continue to be a popular option for younger golfers. Some of the region's top juniors play in events around the country and have qualified for national championship events along the way. The Kentucky Golf Association's Pepsi Junior Tour is still a top option for area juniors with 28 tournaments from May 28-to-July 24. Players can sign up and see a schedule at www.kygolf.org or by calling 1-502-243-8295. There are also a Mountain Dew Junior Series and Aquafina Junior Series available. The Pepsi Tour makes three stops in western Kentucky at the Madisionville Country Club (June 16), Marvel Golf Club (June 18). Many other stops on the tour are within easy driving distance. Qualifying events for the United State Junior Boys and Girls Amateurs will be held in Kentucky. The girls qualifier will be held at the University Club of Kentucky (June 26) and the boys of Bowling Green Country Club (June 30). Both are sponsored by the United States Golf Association with information available at www.usga.org |
