Flowing along with the changing 'Current'
This is the last Current that will appear in the format you’re holding now.

As of July 31 Current will publish on Thursdays as a section within the paper rather than as a separate publication.

Honestly, the feeling for me is like being out on a date with a new girlfriend and running into the recent breakup.

I miss the old girlfriend, the former Current version.

It was free, it sat around town for everyone and its design was unique to the paper.

But I really like the new girlfriend, the new version of Current to come.

The publication day on Thursday allows for different features, including new movie, music and television reviews from me and the Associated Press.

Since Current is almost a year old now there’s no better time to revamp its format and content to take advantage of all we’ve learned so far.

As it moves into the paper I hope you’ll follow Current there and maybe it will pick up people along the way.

Like every other employee of The Paducah Sun I realize the way people need their news changes as rapidly as the fast-paced technological world around them.

We’ll be there as it changes and this is how:

- Internet focus. A new look with more frequently updated local entertainment news. Start to check www.paducahsun.com/current for that concert you heard might be Friday night or to see if the theater added any movie times for the weekend.

- Reviews. A new print day means you’ll be able to read reviews of blockbusters hitting silver screens the upcoming weekend. I’ll throw in reviews of music and productions in and around our area.

- New sections. Our social events and area music sections are the bread and butter but now you’ll get new side dishes. Area bloggers will contribute writings each week, local drinks will get profiles and a photo of the week should grab your eye.

- Picture happy. Speaking of pictures there will be lots more of them. Especially pictures from local haunts and events. Our cameras will catch you everywhere and put you in the paper.

- Lower Town and Nearby Notes. Expect to find the latest buzz topics coming out of Lower Town and nearby cities to stay in the loop.

If you have any questions or comments, e-mail or call me. Or come see me tonight at the Paducah Summer Festival stage at the foot of Broadway. Somehow the organizers thought it would be a good idea for me to emcee the first night of music and festivities. And if enough readers show up and support Current I might be persuaded to enter the greased pole competition. The fun starts at 6 p.m.
