ashull@paducahsun.com The wait was worth it for alt-rock quartet Special D. As a producer mastered tracks late last week, Felker said their new record "Over and Over" is finally ready. "We'll have a Paducah release concert in early February," Felker said, during a band practice inside The Passion Church in Cadiz. Fans remember last year's release of "Different Story" which the group agrees showcased their high energy but didn't follow up on their level of play. "We feel like the production quality with 'Over and Over' is more on our level and shows how far we've come," Felker said. The five-track extended play is put together by Ainslie Grosser, who also produces songs for The Backstreet Boys. "It's pretty cool to think about Grosser doing our sessions and then turning around to do someone like the Backstreet Boys' songs," said bassist Joel Purdy. "But we're not a boy band," guitarist L.J. Granstaff chimed in. While the finished songs weren't available before deadline, the band did showcase the title track in practice. With thumping drum beats, soaring guitar rifts and Felker laying yelled, energized vocals over it all, standing still became a task. And it's the band's live energy they hope comes across this time around. Just after Felker finished jumping around the mic with a Mick Jagger swagger he said, "This (record) will get our energy across, definitely."
