Edgar Calvin Marshall, Jr., age 88, peacefully passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012, at his home in Charleston.

He was born September 4, 1923, at 906 East Commercial Street in Charleston to the late Edgar Calvin Marshall, Sr. and Mary Alice Thompson Marshall. He lived in Mississippi County all his life where he was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church. He served many years on the board of Levee District Number Three, and was instrumental (along with Hunter Raffety) in the formation of Consolidated Drainage District. He was an initial member of the board of directors of Citizens Bank in Charleston and was active for many years in that capacity. After graduating from Charleston High School, he attended The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and continued his education at the University of Missouri where he was a Sigma Chi. Ed left college to serve in the United States Army. After serving his country, Ed returned home to the family farm where he was blessed with success performing work he loved.

On April 29, 1950 he married Jacqueline Webb Graham of Paducah, Kentucky who survives of the home.

He is also survived by four daughters and three sons, Mary T. and Keith Whitehead of Charleston, Sarah and Ed Hines of Brewton, Alabama, Edgar C Marshall III of Charleston, Lucia and Don Hillenmeyer of Franklin, Tennessee, Madeline and Dr. Bill Haynie of Shreveport, Louisiana, James and Denise Marshall of Cape Girardeau and Karl Marshall of Charleston. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Virginia Marshall Pollock and Evelyn Louise Marshall, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2012, at the family home, 308 E. Commercial Street in Charleston. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. Pastor Dan Faust will officiate.

Graveside service will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Carter, Charlie Holley, Mark Dugan, Jim Burke, Emmett Burke, Jamie Pollock, Monroe Black, Jim Cullison and Jim Thurmond, Jr.
