MURRAY, Ky. — Murray native W. Earl Brown, who portrays Dan Dority on the HBO “Deadwood” series, is part of the cast of “Killer Diller,” a Bullwark Entertainment production.

“Killer Diller” opened recently in limited distribution in Memphis and Nashville in Tennessee, and St. Louis, Kansas City and Columbia in Missouri. The independent film is directed by Tricia Brock and is based on the novel by Clyde Edgerton, a Southern writer. For specific theaters in those areas, visit www.murraystate.edu/ialu/killerdiller.htm

Brown is a Murray State University theater graduate and a graduate of Calloway County High School. He portrays Holister Jackson, a gruff father who does what he can to love and protect his son, Vernon. Brown’s supporting role is played opposite Lucas Black, who portrays the son. Black’s credits include “Sling Blade,” “All the Pretty Horses” and “Cold Mountain.”

Arrested for violating his parole, guitar-playing car thief Wesley Benfield, played by William Lee Scott (‘‘The Butterfly Effect,” “Identity,”) is sentenced to a halfway house in the middle of the Bible Belt. Ned Sears (Fred Willard), who runs the house, forms his own hymn-playing band and recruits young felons based on their musical talents. Wesley and the group of lawbreakers are confined to playing “church music” to retirees and grade-schoolers. Together they transform a group of reluctant halfway house convicts into the Killer Diller Blues Band.

Brock, who has directed “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Twin Peaks” episodes, said Brown has supported her in being hired by Deadwood producers to direct an upcoming episode. “I will be the first woman director on the Deadwood production staff,” she said.

Brown’s credits include “Deep Impact,” “Kiss The Girls,” “Being John Malkovich,” “There’s Something About Mary” and “Meatloaf: To Hell And Back.”
