Wreck seriously injures Paducah man

By Staff report

A Paducah man sustained serious injuries after a wreck Wednesday afternoon near Carson Park.

Najim K. Abushawish, 45, of California Court was taken to Baptist Health Paducah, then flown to Vanderbilt University Medical

Center in Nashville, Tenn., after the collision, according to Paducah Police Department spokeswoman Robin Newberry.

The wreck occurred after police say Abushawish's 2003 Honda Accord failed to stop at a stop sign on Clay Street.

Travis W. Nugent, 35, of Tennessee Street told police that he was driving a wrecker owned by C&W Towing of Metropolis, Ill.,

south on Joe Clifton Drive when the Accord failed to stop and pulled in front of him, Newberry said.

The Accord was hit broadside on the passenger side, then spun around, hitting a fire hydrant and a utility pole. Abushawish

was unable to talk to officers, but a witness confirmed Nugent's account of the collision, Newberry said.

She added that Nugent did not seek medical attention. Vanderbilt staff could not be reached for comment on Abushawish's condition.
