RYAN HERMENS | The SunVolunteers help scoop rubber ducks from the pond Saturday at Information Age Park in Paducah following the third annual Merryman House Paducky Derby. More than 7,000 rubber ducks, adopted by individuals, were released into the pond and slowly made their way to the finish line. Cash prizes were distributed to those who sponsored the top-three finishers. Proceeds from the event benefit the Merryman House, a nonprofit organization that offers residency and outreach services of victims of intimate partner abuse and their dependents.

Local schools rank among state's best

Western Kentucky is home to some of the best high schools in the state, according to the 2017 U.S. News and World Report Best High Schools Ranking.The list places Murray High School at No. 10 and McCracken County High School at No. 24. That is out of 370 high schools across 170 districts in Kentucky.Other schools in the region did well, too. Marshall County High School ranks No. 37 in the state. ...
